Teen Girl Sexually Assaulted En Route To School
RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) ―
Police are searching for suspects after a teenage girl said she was groped on her way to school. The 16-year old girl was walking in Rancho Cordova when a man reportedly jumped out of his car and sexually assaulted her.
Detectives said the incident occurred near the light rail station and a breezeway on Mills Tower Drive when the girl was approached by a small red car with two men inside. One of the men reportedly asked if she wanted a ride, and when she said no, one of the men attacked.
"One of the suspects got out of the car, grabbed her, basically sexually assaulted her, groped and fondled her," said Sgt. Tim Curran of the Sacramento Police Department. "She was able to fight her way away from him and escape."
Once she reached Cordova High School she told a teacher. The school sent a recorded message by phone to all of the students' parents.
In the neighborhood tonight, parents are talking about what happened, and are keeping a closer eye on their children.
"Kids come first at all times, and we need to catch [the suspect]," said resident Patricia.
