Boy Allegedly Spends Counterfeit Money; Mom Busted
NATOMAS (CBS13) ―
Authorities say a local woman's home was essentially a money factory, filled with credit cards and counterfeit money. They say she was finally caught when her son tried to spend the fake money at school.
Neighbors are just learning why a North Sacramento home was the target of the secret service, postal inspector and Sacramento police. An affidavit obtained by CBS13 tells why. The feds say behind what is now a padlocked door was a secret criminal operation of counterfeiting, stolen credit cards and mail theft. It says that 35-year-old Priscilla Carlisle confessed to being the ring leader.
"Well to me she seemed like a nice lady," said Margaritta, neighbor.
The feds say that inside the home they found 67 credit cards, 100 handwritten social security and driver's license numbers and several fake credit applications -- and not to mention other people's mail.
"Amazing because I have been missing mail," Alfonso Crawford.
Some neighbors believe they're also victims.
"We've been missing mail. My brother missed mail. I missed mail but we just never assumed it would happen in out neighborhood," said Alfonso. "And then there's reports of numerous fake $10 bills.
It came to an end for Priscilla right at a neighborhood school. That's where her son tried to spend counterfeit money on his lunch.
Investigators say school officials at Hiram Johnson called police after Carlisle's son tried to spend the money. The cops were called and the son reportedly pointed the finger at mom. Now she's in jail. Some neighbors felt sorry for Priscilla because they thought she was actually a victim of foreclosure.
"That's too bad. The lady is a single mom and she lost her house. That's terrible. But now it's a different story. Ha, ha, apparently," said Grace.
Priscilla allegedly bought the counterfeit money from a family member and purchased the credit cards from another suspect.
Police won't say whether or not Priscialla's son or relatives face charges.
