Verdict: Woodland Dentist Guilty On 12 Counts
Anderson: There are no victims in this case.
WOODLAND, Calif. (CBS13/AP) ―
A Yolo County jury has deadlocked on several counts against a Woodland dentist accused of groping his female patients, but found him guilty on a dozen other counts.
Mark Anderson had claimed that he massaged his patients' breasts as part of a medical procedure to treat temporomandibular disorder, or TMD, which affects the muscles of the upper body.
After seven days of jury deliberation, Anderson was found guilty Tuesday on 11 felony counts and one misdemeanor count of sexual battery. The jury deadlocked on six counts, and found Anderson not guilty on two more charges.
Anderson could face at least as 20 years for his convictions. He remains free while awaiting sentencing April 24.
As Anderson left the courtroom, he answered a reporter's question about the victims in the case by stating that "there were none," but did not elaborate.
One Anderson's victims, Tanya McKay, reacted angrily to that statement, calling it "completely unbelievable that he's still saying that after being convicted."
"I want to know [of] any other felon who has been convicted of 11 felonies and walked out of a courthouse before," McKay added.
Anderson faced 19 felony charges for skin-to-skin contact and one misdemeanor for touching a patient's breasts over her clothing. The incidents occurred between February 2005 and his arrest in August 2007 and brought complaints from 14 women.
