Man Arrested For Murder Of 4-Year-Old Boy
Child Protective Services Opened Investigation Into Boy's Welfare A Month Before Death
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
A 26-year-old former security guard is behind bars, accused of beating his girlfriend's 4-year-old son to death.
The Sacramento Sheriff's department arrested Jonathan Lamar Perry yesterday afternoon at a relative's home in Antioch for allegedly killing Jahmaurae Allen.
The arrest comes after deputies and paramedics were called to a Sacramento home on Oakhollow Drive Monday morning.
"We got a call from the suspect, saying the 4-year-old child he was looking after was unconscious," said Sacramento County Sheriff's spokesman Tim Curran. Authorities say Perry, Jahmaurae and an 18-month old girl were the only people in the home at the time.
Jahmaurae was taken first to Mercy San Juan Hospital, and then to UCD Medical Center, where he died. Doctors say the child had suffered massive head and internal injuries.
Detectives questioned Perry after Jahmaurae's death, charging him with murder and child endangerment within 48 hours. Perry is being held in the Sacramento County Jail without bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
The 18-month-old girl has been taken into protective custody.
Child Protective Services has acknowledged opening an investigation into Jahmaurae's welfare on June 16, 2008, more than a month before his death, but has not yet released details on their investigation.
Perry was licensed by the State of California as a security guard in 2001, but his certification expired in 2003. He had no reported disciplinary problems, and was not licensed to carry a weapon.
The victim's mother is not under any suspicion.
