SoCal Police Search For Killers Of 8-Year-Old Girl

Girl Was Unintended Target Of A Gang-Related Shooting

LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Police have worked through the night looking for the two suspected gang members who gunned down an 8-year-old girl in a South Los Angeles apartment courtyard.

Los Angeles police Lt. Lee Sands says that detectives are interviewing people for the case, but they have no suspects in custody.

The girl was shot near East 76th and South San Pedro streets at about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say children were playing in the courtyard of their apartment building when two males in their late teens approached and opened fire at a nearby group of people.

The girl was hit in the chest, an unintended target of a gang-related shooting. She was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
