SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A high-ranking official with the California Department of Corrections says he will plead guilty DUI.

Scott Kernan, undersecretary for the California Department of Corrections, says he will plead guilty to the charges stemming from his arrest last month.

"I am deeply remorseful for my actions and arrest on June 7, and offer no excuse for my poor judgment.  Because I am a public figure and an appointee, I am waiving any privacy afforded to me under the Peace Officer's Bill of Rights to announce that I have been suspended without pay for six weeks, effective from the date of the incident.  I will be entering a guilty plea to the court in a July hearing, and have had my license suspended consistent with Department of Motor Vehicles rules.  I am fully aware that my conduct was unbecoming of a peace officer, and reflects poorly on my record of service to the state and to the Governor.  I am humbled that the Secretary has requested that I continue to serve the Department upon completion of my suspension." – CDCR Undersecretary Scott Kernan

Kernan was stopped last June on a Sunday evening in a state vehicle on Jackson Highway near Rancho Murieta and was arrested for operating a vehicle while over the legal limit.

According to the CDCR, Kernan started his career with the department in 1983 as a correctional officer, and was appointed the position of Undersecretary in November, 2008.
