Sac Lawyer Pleads No Contest To Sexual Battery
SACRAMENTO (AP) ―
A Sacramento divorce lawyer has pleaded no contest to charges that he improperly touched five clients.
Fifty-eight-year-old Gary Appelblatt entered his plea Monday to four counts of sexual battery and one count of attempted sexual contact. He initially was charged with 13 counts.
Prosecutors say Appelblatt would tell clients that he had a pharmacy degree and touched them under the guise of performing medical procedures during divorce case consultations. In one instance, he allegedly offered to reduce a client's bill by $5,000 if she had sex with him.
Appelblatt's attorney, Tom Johnson, says under terms of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to suspend prison time for the sexual battery counts. Appelblatt could spend as much as 18 months in prison for the last count when he's sentenced Oct. 16.
