Foreclosure Rental Scams Hit Northern California

VALLEJO (CBS) ― An old scam targeting renters looking for a new place to live has resurfaced, with Northern California neighborhoods hit hard by foreclosures as the prime targets.

Scammers change the locks and get rid of for sale signs of a vacant home before posting a rental listing. Then the con artist will get the first and last month's rent in cash, and is gone before the victims realize their rental agreement was really phony.
