Records Show Warnings Before Fresno's Boy's Death
FRESNO (AP) ―
A Fresno County supervisor is calling for an independent review of Child Protective Services after a 10-year-old boy allegedly was beaten and stomped to death by his mother's boyfriend.
Interviews and records show that Seth Ireland's father, Fresno police and the Fresno Unified School District all told CPS about suspected abuse and neglect. And just days before the Dec. 29 death, the suspect and the boy's mother, Rena Ireland, tried to drop Seth off at jail, claiming they couldn't handle him.
Thirty-two-year-old LeBaron Vaughn has been charged with murder.
Catherine Huerta, director of the Fresno County Children and Family Services Department, which includes CPS, says the department supports the decisions made by the social worker in this case. She says she welcomes an independent review.
