Calif. Mother Gets 4 years In Child's Death

VACAVILLE (AP) ― A Vacaville mother has been sentenced to four years in prison for killing her 11-year-old daughter with an overdose of prescription drugs and sleeping pills.

But Ana Maria Corral likely will serve no more than another month behind bars.

Solano County Superior Court Judge William Harrison handed her the maximum sentence for involuntary manslaughter Wednesday, but gave her credit for 1,425 days she already served in jail for the 2006 death.

Witnesses at Corral's trial said the overdose was either part of a bizarre mother-daughter suicide pact or the mother's misguided effort to travel to heaven with her daughter and return safely.

Corral's defense attorney says the 46-year-old was suffering from severe mental problems.
