List Of Recalled Beef Products, Locations Released
SACRAMENTO (CBS13/AP) ―
Officials today unveiled a detailed list of all nationally recalled beef products.
The impact of the nation's largest beef recall continues to expand as the government and food businesses try to determine: Where's the beef?
The problem is the answer is: It could be anywhere.
150 wholesalers bought directly from the southern California slaughterhouse that prompted the recall.
Just one of those wholesalers could have used the beef to make dozens of different products from soup to burritos to sauces.
One of those wholesalers is in Sacramento.
The Sacramento office of the food distribution company Sysco was listed among hundreds of sellers in California that purchased the recalled beef.
Sysco sells not only ground beef, but their website lists packaged products like soups, burritos, sauces, ravioli and more.
According to the Sysco website, it does not distribute products to any grocery shelves, but they do distribute to restaurants, hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and colleges.
Sysco's website has a statement regarding recalls:
"When we receive notice of a recall, we immediately secure any product that is potentially involved. We call any customer that may have purchased it and then send them details about it. If a customer has any affected product we pick it up and secure it here awaiting outcome of the investigation by the supplier."
Officials estimate that about 37 million pounds of the recalled beef went to school programs, but they believe most of the meat probably has already been eaten.
Most of the beef was sent to distribution centers in bulk packages. The USDA said it is working with distributors to determine how much meat remains.
No illnesses have been linked to the newly recalled meat, and officials said the health threat was likely small.
