Call Kurtis: Non-Refundable Disneyland Tickets

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― It's known as the happiest place on earth. But one family were told they couldn't get a refund on tickets they bought for Disneyland due to a death in the family, going back to the park was turning into just only a dream -- until I got involved.

"I remember the first time I went, I was five," says Tracy Ayers, Valley Springs resident.

Tracy wanted to share her memories of Disneyland and create new ones by taking her eight-year-old daughter, Cassie.

"We were really looking forward to it, my daughter already started the countdown" said Tracy.

She bought three tickets through an AAA office in Stockton and paid $477 for a special "buy three days, get two free" pass.

They had specific dates to use them.

Tracy says they were "non-refundable, admit one, non-transferable."

Just days before leaving for Disneyland, Tracy's mother-in-law, Sandy, had a stroke and passed away.

Tracy called AAA, hoping she could use the tickets another time but didn't get any compassion.

"I said 'okay, well, what about if I brought in the death certificate. Would that make a difference?' and she says 'no'," said Tracy.

She says the AAA employee didn't offer much sympathy.

Tracy tells us she was "shocked, just really shocked."

The last time her family went to Disneyland was five years ago. Her husband's uncle died and they had to come home early. Now, she doesn't want Cassie to have more bad memories.

"That's hard for an eight-year-old to understand. I can't go to Disneyland because my grandma died. That's really hard" said Tracy.

Cassie already crossed out the dates on her countdown calendar but Tracy wasn't ready to throw in the towel yet.

"That's a lot of money, it really is," said Tracy. "I don't care who you are these days"."

So she got me involved. We called both AAA and Disneyland.

Disneyland called us back the next day and told us AAA couldn't do much because the tickets were a special Springtime promotion. Disneyland decided to send them, not just three but four "four-day" passes.

Disneyland and AAA also expressed their condolences and included a $100 dollar Disney gift card.

Tracy says she's elated, thankful and grateful.
