Call Kurtis: Car Wash Connection

TRACY, Calif. (CBS13) ― "I figure we give them support as a fan and show them a little love, you know, some business you know for them to thrive on in this community."

Tim Owings and his wife are such big San Francisco 49'er fans they chose to buy their car at a dealership owned by two rather famous former 49ers, Ronnie Lott, and Keena Turner.

But there's now love-lost between them and Tim. "This is the kind of service that you get? It's terrible, it's a nightmare."

When Tim bought the car in 2002, he says he also bought their gold "club maintenance program." Every time he has his car serviced at Tracy Toyota he gets a free carwash, at least he's supposed to.

"They just flat out refused," Tim says. "They wouldn't wash it by hand or take it outside to a carwash."

You see, Tracy Toyota's car wash has been broken for two years now. Up until last month they would wash Tim's car by hand.

"Very grumpy and grouchy about it," he says of them.

But he feels like they're punishing him each time they do.

"He had me wait for two hours, easily," he says.

Tim maintains his own car. "It's just something people can really do themselves you know;" but not his wife Judy's.

"I look forward to having a carwash 'cause I don't get a carwash at home," Judy says of her car and the cleaning it's supposed to get.

He's got the gold card program for that. But after being told no washes until repairs are made, whenever that is, he needed help.

"I haven't really getting that thing off my mind, and I haven't been getting much sleep, and really pissed off."

We talked with service director David Rocha. He explained that parts are on order, and they hope to have repairs done this month.

He told us Tim, and others, have to wait because they wash the cars by hand. Yet Tim says they never offered that during his last visit; they told him "no wash."

Rocha said they also offered to wash Tim's car at a place down the street; Tim says that didn't happen.

"I guess I don't count. That's what they make me feel."

Ultimately, Tracy Toyota said it will continue to wash cars by hand, even Tim's, if he decides to go back. "Maybe they won't give me a warm welcome or a good service you know but then I'm used to it."

Tim says he might not have been so upset had the service department treated him better and not made him wait two to three hours for a wash. Tracy Toyota says they never made him wait unnecessarily long and did treat him well.

They also say that gold card was free; Tim says he paid for it.

Neither could show paperwork to prove it.
