Call Kurtis: Double Insurance Coverage

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― Ellie and Kevin Hanson really enjoy being parents and are looking forward to adding to their family. "We weren't able to conceive our second child on our own so we went to the doctor and we had to go through some fertility treatments."

Both are teachers and each has Healthnet Insurance, providing double-coverage for their family. Ellie started her fertility treatments in August, and with dual-coverage each policy should have kicked in for half. In this case $1500.00 each for the $3000.00 treatments.

"I did a claim with Healthnet and they rejected me." Healthnet paid the first half, but not the second, and Ellie then received the first of several denial letters in October. "When I get denial letters it just tells me to contact my medical insurance."

Since October Ellie has done that many times, in the car, while her husband drives them to work. "He drives and I'm on the phone the whole time and I don't have unlimited minutes." No one at Healthnet could explain why they weren't paying her claim. Finally Ellie did receive ne check for around $620.00, but Healthnet still owed around $840.00.

So she contacted us for help. "I have no idea frustrating, very frustrating, I don't understand." We contacted Healthnet's Corporate Offices and explained the problem. They told us, "This should have been fixed. This does not live up to our usual standards."

Within a week we were told a check was on the way. "Relieved, I just want it done. I want to be able to close the file, say thank you for my money and that's it." Ellie called us and confirmed that she did indeed receive that check for the full amount owed.
