Call Kurtis: Can't Make The Connection

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― "I'm upset that a company could behave this way, honestly," says Susan Ledbetter, who expects more from a company like DirecTV.

What she expected was to get what she said she was promised in the promotion, without hassle. Susan found, online, what she thought was a great deal -- sign-up for DirecTV and get a $10 discount off her monthly bill for 12 months, and a $200 JetBlue gift card.

But she can't get either of them.

"I think it was intentional, I really do."

And she could really use that card. She flies JetBlue often to visit family and friends in New York. But calls to customer service didn't help at all.

"Some of them said they didn't know anything about it and they'd have to check into it because they weren't aware of it."

Their supervisor then got on the line.

"And he basically said the same thing; he didn't say anything. He never explained anything. He just said, 'No you're not getting the card.'"

Susan says she did her part: she called the number shown on the promotion's webpage. She gave them her friend's account info, since she'd referred Susan. So they both believe they're entitled to the monthly discount.

Yet, DirecTV is denying them. A letter sent to Susan says she didn't order through the referral offer or provide the account number.

"And that was it, which really doesn't explain anything."

She'd hit a wall, and it stung. "Well I was irritated enough to contact you."

We contacted DirecTV's media relations people. We gave them a rundown of Susan's problems with their promotion. Then, about a week later, Susan got a call from DirecTV; her JetBlue gift card would arrive that day.

"That's the card," she says, holding up the little blue plastic $200 gift card.
Yep, the card arrived; it's a pleasant surprise to Susan.

"Yes, I am going to use it. I hope to go to New York to see my family."
She made her connection, so to speak.

JetBlue told us that it had nothing to do with this promotion. DirecTV simply bought a large number of these cards to offer as part of their promotion. If you ever take advantage of any promotion, make sure you carefully read and understand the rules; one mistake could render you ineligible.
