Buy It And Try It: The Handy Switch
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
The late Billy Mays said the Handyswitch will control any lamp from anywhere in any room, even through walls.
We found a good place to try it: Sacramento's Lumens Light and Living in midtown Sacramento has lamps everywhere you turn.
"Boy, I haven't counted lately, but I'd say probably 1,500 light fixtures here in the showroom," said owner Ken Plumlee.
Plumlee says they have contemporary products from around the word. He understands why someone would want the Handyswitch.
"Yeah, we don't like to get out of our chair," he said.
You know it's plugged in correctly when you see the nightlight glow, then your supposed to be able to use the Handyswitch up to 60 feet away. We started off easy.
"I'd say that's probably eight to 10 feet," Ken said just before flipping the switch."
Nothing happened. We started troubleshooting. Our receiver lights up, our batteries are installed correctly, but nothing happened.
We bought two Handyswitches so we tried the second one too, but get the same results. Just to be sure it has nothing to do with plugging it into extension cords, we try one more test and plug it strait into an outlet. Nothing.
"So we're a no go," Ken said.
In the end, it "didn't work," Ken said.
The Handyswitch is supposed to work using radio frequencies, so we tried it out when we got back to the station to make sure there weren't interferences within the store. It didn't work there either.
I paid $19.99 plus shipping and handling and bought it online.
