Call Kurtis: Washed Up

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A Citrus Heights couple says they can't use their newly remodeled bathroom. They paid Weatherite more than 10 grand. But they weren't happy with the job. When they couldn't get the company to fix the problems, they called Kurtis.

"I did not pay $10,000 to have a glued together bathroom, something is really wrong here," says Rosemarie Gerould, Citrus Heights resident.

Rosemarie and Bob hired Weatherite to install a new tub and shower in July 2008.

They put a thousand dollars down and financed the rest.

But they say they've had nothing but problems.

"You walk in, you say gee, that looks nice, however when you go to use it," says Rosemarie.

Bob points out, "There's a soft spot and the tub gives... this is designed to work with a shower... this one sticks up probably a good quarter of an inch."

They say the shower drain is too high, hurting their feet.

They also had issues with this wall that separates their shower and tub.

"I came in and found them piecing this together, gluing this with silicone and this right here, is just a plastic stick and peel piece that you can get at Home Depot for almost no money," says Rosemarie.

Rosemarie called Weatherite last fall and the company sent out a technician.

But she says the problems weren't fixed. Instead, they got this letter from the general manager, saying they "will do everything within reason" but Rosemarie says that wasn't good enough.

"They said, well you didn't visit our showroom so you got what you got," says Rosemarie.

And it's true, she never did go to a showroom.

She looked at photos a salesman brought to her house.

"I don't care how big a company you are, if your customer isn't satisfied, you work with the customers," says Rosemarie.

We contacted Weatherite and spoke with the general manager, Joe Sandino, the same guy who wrote that letter.

A few days later, he sent out a different technician who agreed the company could improve on several areas.

Three months later, Weatherite returned to Bob and Rosemarie's home.

"They've done a really nice job in putting this corner piece in," says Rosemarie.

They replaced the wall and rounded out the edge of the shower drain.

But then after that visit, a big surprise.

Weatherite told Rosemarie and Bob there were manufacturing defects with the tub and shower.

In an email to us, the company's general manager says:

"... the bumps in the tub appear to have gotten worse..."

And "the manufacturer has agreed to re-make the tub and shower..."

"... we are tearing everything out..."

And "Rosemarie will be receiving all new stuff and we will do our best to exceed her expectations."

"If they can fix all of this, I can soak in a tub finally or we can take a shower finally after over a year. Thank you so much and Call Kurtis and Channel 13. Everything you've done is just fantastic," says Rosemarie.

Today, Weatherite came out to Rosemarie and Bob's home to start tearing things out. We also contacted GE Money, the bank who financed the job.
They say if you have a problem, you can dispute the charges with them.
