Call Kurtis: I'm Not Dead
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
"All in all we're doing well, and life is pretty good."
If only Macy's and Equifax knew that. They've declared the very much alive Ken Blomberg
dead. His wife Patty has a request.
"I just want them to bring my husband back to life and clear our credit records."
It all started w hen Ken and his wife Patty refused to pay Ken's Macy's credit card bill for rugs that never showed up at their home. But Macy's wanted the Blomberg's to pay anyway.
"And then we got a letter in March of 2009 addressed to the Estate of Kenneth Blomberg, and I'm thinking Ken, what are you not telling me?"
Macy's turned them over to collections, who said he was dead! The collections agency, TSYS Total Debt Management, Inc. then sent a letter saying
"We were recently informed by our client of the passing of Kenneth Blomberg. We are truly sorry for your loss."
When Patty received the letter;
"I thought how dumb."
Then knowledge of Ken's supposed death and outstanding debt trickled to the credit reporting agency Equifax, who also listed him as deceased. Patty says Macy's refused to believe they never received those rugs and that Ken is alive.
"We also sent them a copy of his pay check. I said very interesting that a person would get a pay check from the school district if he were truly dead."
We started working to bring Ken back to life in the eyes of Macy's and Equifax. Equifax told us they'd correct the problem, but quote;
"We merely collect information given to us. We need to find the source"
That's when we contacted Macy's, wanting to know why they declared him dead in the first place. They told us quote;
"We received a call stating that the customer was deceased."
Although they wouldn't tell us who called, after we got involved Macy's resurrected Ken. They cleared his bill for those rugs and promised to work with Equifax. They even sent the Blomberg's a $50.00 gift card for all their trouble.
Ken is glad to be alive again. Never in his wildest dreams did he think a d department store could bump him off.
"I think it's quite outrageous."
