Call Kurtis: Dish Dispute
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Nobody wants to pay more than their fair share, nor should they have to.
Like a lot of folks these days, Karen Anderson was looking to save a buck.
One place to save was on her TV service.
Karen decided she would switch from her satellite service to cable.
She made the call to her satellite provider, AT&T.
That's when she found out for the first time that she was under contract with Dish Network.
"I just couldn't fathom me being in service with dish, under the impression that I was still with AT&T" says Karen.
Dish demanded that she pay $120 to cancel that two year contract.
Karen didn't think she had to, "And I said no way."
Karen says not one piece of paper given to her by AT&T indicated she was under contract with dish.
She argued that point with AT&T which then told her to take it up with Dish.
So she called Dish.
But they wouldn't budge on her bill.
"So I called Kurtis and Jan Thursday helped me resolve the problem."
Call Kurtis volunteer Jan got on the case.
She made one call to her media contact at Dish.
"And she was on it right away and it was resolved" Jan says.
To Karen's surprise, "I got an email from Dish TV saying that everything was ok and they had given me credit and they had written it off."
Sometimes that's all it takes to make a difference.
"It makes you feel good when you do that."
And that makes all the difference in the world to Karen.
"I felt really, really good and I just felt like I wasn't cheated anymore."
We remind viewers of this all the time but it's worth repeating.
Read your contract, understand it, and ask questions if you don't.
There may be a missing element that could make a huge difference in your financial obligations.
