Blasier Discusses Importance Of DNA Evidence
by Mike Dello Stritto
SACRAMENTO (AP) ―
Famed defense attorney Bob Blasier started studying DNA in the '80s, long before those three letters became a household name. That's when it started showing up in court. Ever since, Blasier's worked with defendants facing damning DNA evidence. In the Garcia case, Blasier claims the DNA could've gone innocently from Christie Wilson to Garcia, to his car.
"I think the fact that the bruises he had, I think that was more significant than the forensic evidence," he says.
When it comes to forensic evidence, it's hard to find a crime scene with more DNA than in the Oj Simpson case. Blasier should know. He had to explain all that away.
"The forensic evidence in Simpson was extremely strong against Mr. Simpson, no question about it," he says.
In the world of DNA technology, Simpson's trial was a generation ago. Just ten years in real time, but the next ten years could bring a quantum leap to DNA, changing trials even further, and bringing immediate justice to law enforcement.
"Police cars with DNA testing kits in the car itself where they can run a sample right there and perhaps get a profile back," says Blasier.
