AMGEN Tour Announced, Lance Armstrong Will Ride
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
The AMGEN Tour of California announced its host cities for 2010 in an interesting way: via a Twitter exchange between Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer and two other cyclists.
The first stage will start in Nevada City and finish in Sacramento on May 16. The second will start in Davis and end in Santa Rosa. The tour will skip Stockton but will the fourth stage will end in Modesto.
The Nevada City start is a big win for the foothill town. Many residents say Lance Armstrong himself fought for the AMGEN Tour of California to start there after participating in a race through Nevada City earlier this year.
The tour will ultimately wrap up May 23rd in Southern California. All in all, the racers will cover 750 miles and 16 cities.
Along with the tour schedule announcement, Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer, Dave Zabriskie and George Hincapie all announced they would be riding in the event.
