(AP) A motorist led police on a televised pursuit across residential streets and freeways during rush hour traffic Tuesday before stopping and surrendering peacefully in front of a home.

The chase began shortly before 9 a.m. in the San Fernando Valley when, authorities said, Los Angeles school police saw the driver commit a minor traffic violation.

It continued across the valley, over a hillside pass and into the city's west side, with the car at times threading its way through heavy traffic. At other times the driver speeded through open areas, occasionally using the wrong side of the road.

The pursuit ended uneventfully about 9:30 a.m. when the driver pulled over and surrendered in front of a home in the city's Mar Vista section.

It wasn't immediately known why Los Angeles Unified School District police took up the chase.
