Biden: 'I'm Not The Guy' For Obama
GREENVILLE, Del. (CBS) ―
Delaware Senator Joe Biden told a throng of reporters camped out near his home Tuesday that he is "not the guy" when it comes to possibly being Barack Obama's running mate, reports CBS station KYW-TV in Philadelphia.
While leaving his New Castle County home in his pick-up truck Tuesday afternoon, Biden told a collection of media, "you got better things to do guys, I'm not the guy."
The speculation has been running rampant that Biden is at the top of Obama's short list of choice for vice-president.
"You like him and respect him for his knowledge on these issues and we need somebody helping running the country who knows the world, and knows the world's problems," Delaware Senator Tom Carper said.
Carper, a former two-term governor of Delaware, said he gave his personal endorsement of Biden to Obama.
Senator Obama's praise of Biden's recent foreign aid policy has many wondering if bigger things are set to come.
"That is why I am proud to join my friend Senator Joe Biden in calling for an additional $1 billion in reconstruction assistance for the people of Georgia," Obama recently said.
Biden, 65, is a six-term Senator and has made three presidential runs.
Whoever Barack Obama's newly minted running mate is, the two are expected to hit the trail Saturday.
A senior Obama adviser told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday that Obama and his veep choice will appear together in front of the former state Capitol in Illinois where Abraham Lincoln once served.
The last time Obama appeared there, early in 2007, he announced he was running for president.
The disclosure narrowed the window for Obama to reveal his running mate. The campaign says the announcement will come in a cell phone text message to supporters.
