Windy Weather Topples Dozens Of Trees
SOUTH SACRAMENTO (CBS13/AP) ―
Heavy winds are already creating problems including blowing over trees and creating treacherous driving conditions.
The winds are being blamed on knocking over a huge tree in South Sacramento that took out some power lines and crushed a 26-foot boat parked on the side of a home.
The tree came down on 19th Avenue just missing a home. No one was injured. But the home owner tells CBS13, the tree smashed her boat and damaged her fence. The tree also knocked down power lines which fell into the street. Utility crews and the fire department are working to clear the street.
In Davis, a tree came down right next to a car missing it by inches.
This giant oak was knocked down near Highway 113 at Russell Blvd.
This is on the UC Davis campus. No one was hurt.
Minutes later, a giant limb came crashing down on a street in Sacramento. It landed on the back end of a woman's SUV blowing out the back window. This happened on Gateway Oaks near Garden Highway. Crews cleared the tree that had been blocking two lanes.
Wind may have been a factor in a major big rig accident near Rio Vista just after 8:00am. The rig, loaded with grapes, flipped on Highway 12 just east Highway 113. High profile warnings for the cross winds have been issued all morning but it's unclear if winds were a factor.
The National Weather Service has issued a
Wind Advisory in effect until 11:00 tonight. The CHP is warning motorists to take extra precautions especially on bridges and elevated roadways.
In Southern California, a wind warning predicts strong and damaging north winds late Tuesday morning in mountain areas of Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties and the Antelope Valley desert area northeast of Los Angeles.
Gusty winds are forecast Tuesday afternoon in Southern California valleys, canyons and mountains.
The San Gabriel Valley could get blowing ash from last month's huge wildfire northeast of Los Angeles.
The winds are expected to peak in strength in the evening and diminish Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to dip, with Southern California highs in the 60s to low 70s.
