David Begnaud is CBS13's resident "Cajun."

He left his native Louisiana to join the station as a General Assignment Reporter in October of 2007.

Before moving to Sacramento, Begnaud was the lead reporter for KSLA TV in Shreveport Louisiana, where he was recognized as Louisiana's Reporter of the Year.  He also was awarded the state's top award for the Best Investigative Report.

Prior to joining KSLA, Begnaud started his career in his hometown of Lafayette, La.  Fresh out of high school, at the age of eighteen, he was hired as a General Assignment Reporter just days before his first semester of college.  Less than six months later, Begnaud was named anchor of the station's inaugural weekend morning show.  Three months later, he was named anchor weekend evening editions of "Eyewitness News."  He went on to fill both roles, attending college during the week and anchoring on the weekends.

One of David's journalistic highpoints, while at CBS 13, was uncovering the mistaken release of 1970's radical Sarah Jane Olsen.  David was the one who started asking questions that eventually led to the discovery that Olsen had been released from prison one year too early.  Within hours of David's report, Olsen was taken back into custody and ordered to serve the remainder of her sentence for the murder of a Carmichael woman in 1975.

Growing up along the Gulf Coast, Begnaud has extensive experience covering natural disaster like Hurricanes and Tropical Storms. In September, 2008, David headed south to cover Hurricane Gustav which struck his hometown.  He spent three days traveling and reporting live along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana.

Begnaud is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

When he's not working he enjoys equestrian show jumping, skiing, and exercising.
