Local Woman's Home Vandalized By Hired Painters
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―
Graffiti scars an elderly woman's home. She says the vandals were actually painters she hired because she saw them do it, and police say they can't do anything about it.
Police say there is nothing they can do about it and the reason is they say it's not vandalism because she hired them to be at her home.
But she says they did all of this graffiti, a huge mess and says they did it out of spite.
She hired Thomas Joyce to paint her home and he vandalized it after she fired him for doing a poor job.
"I was ready to cry when I saw what he did. I couldn't believe anyone would be that mean," says Virginia, the home owner.
She paid him over $1300 up front.
Relatives were home when he came back with a can of spray paint.
"I caught him and yelled at him and he was laughing," says Virginia's daughter.
Rancho Cordova police looked into the incident and they say it's a civil issue, which they can do nothing about.
We tried to reach Thomas Joyce but there was no answer at his apartment.
As for Virginia, she's left with a mess.
"It's the last time I can paint my house at my age and I just wanted it to look nice," she explains.
