The Scoop: Stockton Boulevard Part 2

SACRAMENTO (OPINION) ― This is 5700 Stockton Boulevard in South Sacramento, the San Juan motel and trailer park. If you're a taxpayer in Sacramento County, guess what, you're buying it, 2.5 acres of paradise for $4 million.

The purchase is part of a Sacramento redevelopment agency plan to tear down old buildings on Stockton Boulevard and turn around and offer the land to developers. If everything works out, the $4 million gets paid back and everyone's happy.

The idea is to bundle up several lots, about seven acres total on this stretch, and turn it into retail store and office space and housing. Redevelopment tax receipts will cover the costs. And if there's no market? Well, you still own 2.5 acres of paradise here on Stockton Boulevard.

I'm R.E. Graswich and that's the Scoop.
